Collection
Luther Library provides a wide range of materials and services to its primary clientele: Midland Lutheran College students, faculty, and staff. The library currently houses over 100,000 volumes, and subscribes to over 600 periodicals. A number of newspapers are also received on a daily and weekly basis.
The Luther Library Online Catalog provides access to Luther Library's local collection, and also includes holdings information for nine other academic libraries in Nebraska: Bellevue University, College of St. Mary, Concordia College, Dana College, Doane College, Grace University, Hastings College, Nebraska Wesleyan University, and Union College. A variety of print and electronic periodical indexes are also available in the library to assist users in locating magazine and journal articles.
Community Privileges
Although Midland students, faculty and staff are Luther Library's primary clientele, residents of Fremont and surrounding communities are welcome to use library materials on-site as long as that use does not interfere with the needs of campus users. Several reading areas are scattered throughout the library so that users may comfortably make use of resources within the library, and a copy machine is available to those who need to reproduce material to take home with them.
Adult residents may also purchase a library card ($10) that allows them to check out only books for the normal three-week circulation period. Alumni of Midland College and area pastors can purchase a card for $5. Community users accept the responsibility to pay all fines on overdue material. Those who do not expect to be regular users of Luther Library but need to acquire a particular item from its collection on a one-time basis, should arrange with their local public library to borrow the item for them through interlibrary loan.
