Mission Statement

Luther library exists to serve the needs of the total Midland Lutheran College mission. Specifically, the library supports the broadest goals of the College as a liberal arts institution in both resources and services. The library, moreover, assists in the College's mission of providing a nurturing environment for spiritual, intellectual, and personal growth.

Objectives:

The basic objective of Luther Library is to facilitate access to information and library materials and services for Midland faculty and students.

Specifically, the library will work to ensure that all Midland graduates are able to make efficient use of library resources, including online and print materials, relevant for their work in college courses and lifelong learning and to ensure that they are familiar with the literature and resources of their particular discipline.

To achieve this goal, the library seeks to acquire, process, service, and preserve appropriate library materials and to secure access to resources beyond our own collection through interlibrary cooperation and appropriate electronic resources.

To achieve these objectives, the library:

• develops a collection of both current and retrospective materials selected to match the instructional and research needs of the College users.
• develops and maintains effective collection control through efficient circulation policies, cataloging, adequate hours and security, and collection preservation.
• provides improved access to library materials and information through staff training, user education, reference assistance, and printed materials and user guides.
• supports the freedom of access to all library resources and the confidentiality of all library patron's rights of privacy.
• maintains an effective liaison between the library staff and the College faculty to assist in the planning and development of effective programs and services.
• develops cooperative programs for resource sharing with other libraries and information resources to improve access to off-campus library resources.
• provides access to the library's collection and services for the Fremont community consistent with the primary responsibility of service to the campus.
