Biography:

Dr. Jim Grunwald currently serves as the Director of Academic Computing at Martin Luther College where he teaches faculty and students to better utilize technology in education to enhance teaching and learning.

He has been involved with the graduate program since its beginning and is responsible for teaching the instructors to teach online and design their courses for an online environment. He currently teaches three graduate courses; Enhancing the Curriculum with Technology, Teaching Online, and Designing and Constructing Online Courses. He also teaches technology related courses in the undergraduate program, the Educational Technology Certificate (ETC) program, and the Teaching Online Certificate (TOC) program.

His 30 plus years of teaching in WELS schools at the elementary, high school, college, and graduate levels, have placed him in a unique position to understand the many issues and concerns faced by WELS teachers and schools, especially in the area of technology. Dr. Grunwald has served on numerous technology committees over the years from the local congregation to national associations.

Since 2002, Dr. Grunwald has helped coordinate various online learning initiatives in the WELS. Currently he is working with the WELS Association of Lutheran High Schools to coordinate the offering of online courses between the high schools through ALHS Online.

Dr. Grunwald grew up in Door County, WI, where he attended public school from K-12. He married Karen (Knuth) Grunwald in 1980. They have four grown children and several grandchildren. He enjoys disc golf, gardening, home remodeling, and traveling.
