Biography:

Dr. Carol Angell is an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Studies and the Director of the Special Education Program at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (UW-L). She is responsible for overseeing undergraduate and graduate cross-categorical special education certification curriculum as well as special education-related services courses.

At UW-L Dr. Angell teaches the Introduction to Exceptional Individuals course for initial certification regular education teacher education candidates as well as Language Development and Disorders course and Special Education and the Law courses to special education certification students. As Director, Dr. Angell oversees candidate completion of the Master of Science in Education-Special Education program tracks. At Martin Luther College, Dr. Angell teaches summer graduate courses in Communication Disorders and Classroom Research.

Dr. Angell’s scholarship interests include pre-service teacher literacy methods and assessment and professional disposition growth and development. She has written two books, including Language Development and Disorders (Jones & Bartlett Publications) and Evidence-based Education: Examining Today’s Research for Tomorrow’s Decisions (LRP Publications). Dr. Angell regularly presents at national conferences, most recently at the Association for Teacher Educators (ATE). In addition to teaching and scholarship activities, Dr. Angell has served on curriculum committees, appeal, and policy committees at the departmental and university levels.

Dr. Angell currently serves on the UW-L Faculty Senate and chairs the University Graduate Curriculum Committee and is the Vice President of the Inclusive Education Special Interest Group of the ATE. She is beginning a multi-university research study investigating disposition assessment and candidate ability to intentionally plan professional development affecting professional dispositions.

Dr. Angell grew up in Green Bay, Wisconsin and completed a baccalaureate and Master’s degree at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. After teaching special education, she completed a Ph.D. in special education at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. Dr. Angell married her husband, Joe, in 1987 and has two grown children (Brittany-22; Griffin-21). She enjoys reading, jogging, and cross-stitching in her spare time.
